Hannah Schofield (born Annie Honora Conroy in Ireland - from marriage cert) is in Bury in the 1881 census living with her daughter and husband. She disappears from the records in 1882 when she registers the death of her husband George in Salford in Sep 1882. Her daughter Mary Ann then is accepted by St Stephens orphanage (which will also take girls with only 1 parent dead) in York in Oct 1882 - Mary's sponsors are Elizabeth Lock and Mathew Whelan (who I think are godparents and are not in Bury/Salford). There is no obvious sign of Hannah anywhere in the uk in the 1891 census. freebmd does not have any obvious deaths for her. I have also gone to GRO for hannah schofield marriages in bury/salford area but the reference check(according to marriage cert from 1871, her father is richard conroy) does not tie up. According to 1881 census she was born around 1835 but marriage cert shows 1846 - likewise by 1881 census she is shown as hannah rather than annie honora.
