Joseph Bingham married Anne Jane McGavin of Closkelt, Co. Down. They had 4 children-Margaret(my G'mother)bn c.1850, Mary Anne, Joseph (birth record says s. of Joseph Bigham & Anne Jane McGaffin/McGavin, April 27,1864, Closkelt, Ballyward, Down), & Isabella . All but father Joseph listed 1881 Census of Scotland in Glasgow. My G'mother Margaret married Samuel Shillady in Glasgow 1883, and they emigrated to Boston, Mass., USA.in 1888. GrtG'mother Anne J. Bingham died in Glasgow 1916. I know nothing of Grtg'father Joseph's parents, birth, or death. !881 Census in Glasgow showed Anne as Head of Household & I can't find Joseph listed. My G'parent's Marr. Certif. 1883 shows him as Margaret's father & doesn't say deceased for him, but that's the last mention of him I have. in 1916 of course Anne is shown as widowed, so I don't know whether he died in Ireland or Scotland, or when. Couldn't find him in LDS films of Deaths in Scotland. Mum's family in Boston said Rathfriland was where the family came from in Down, but I've seen references to Closkelt (as shown). 1881 Scot. Census said Drumgooland for Parish of birth. Bingham/Bigham names are well-known in Down, but I can't find my people. |
