clewell Tuesday, 20 September 2005
This is a last name that I've encountered only once. I believe the family that bore the name was of English ancestory. They were an interesting bunch and I wonder what the name means. I do know that a "clew" is an eyelet on a sail to which a rope or "sheet" is attached. Don't know if this is the root of the name Clewell.
