Samuel William married Jane Baker before their son, Samuel John Williams was born in 1843 in St. George in the East. I found them on Spencer St. in 1841 where there son was born in 1843. At that time, they both said they were born there. Not true. Jane Baker Williams was born in Chatham, Kent, England. There is no record of their marriage anywhere I can find (Free BMD or Gillingham, Chatham Kent parish records). Family tradition tells me either Samuel Williams or his father were Japanese mariners. I have corresponded with three other descendants of Samuel John's brothers and all have the same family tradition. None of us have had any success. It is also believed that the first Samuel Williams had a brother who made his home in the United States. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. |
