Worked as a ship builder and travelled the world - Argentina (his 2 youngest children were born in Buenos Aires), Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia. His wife was Mary Smith, b. c1846 in Glasgow (?), d. 6 June 1886 at Shore Street, Gourock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. |

William Andrew Tate was born in Scotland but in the Canadian census 1901 described himself as Irish. He likely emigrated to Millbrook Ontario Canada in the 1850's but was resident in Toronto by 1900. He was a vinegar salesman. His father may have been John Tate/Tait. He married Julia Winslow of Millbrook, Ontario and they had four daughters, Edna, Mabel, Helen and Shirley.
William Andrew Tate was my great grandfather. I think he also had a brother Fred.
Here's hoping someone might be able to shed some light on William's ancestry.
